Did you know that most of us use only 20% of our voice and lung capacity in daily life? When we talk, our voice usually stays in a very small range of something like 5 to 8 notes.
What if there’s a connection between us using such a small fraction of our natural gift, and all the major health issues we’re facing today?
When you ask why people don’t use their full voice, you’ll often hear: “Oh, I’m not a singer, I don’t need to use my full voice.”
That’s like saying, “Oh, I’m not an athlete. I don’t need to use my full body. I don’t need to walk or stretch or exercise. I’m fine just using 20% of my body all my life…”!
That’s crazy, right? You wouldn’t dream of doing that. Of course we use our body. We HAVE it!
So WHY then do we assume using our full voice is reserved just for singers?!
Let’s look at what happens when we don’t use our full voice:
Depression and anxiety are rampant in this country. In the US alone 15 million adults suffer from depression. And 40 million experience cases of anxiety. Other dis-eases are asthma (a breathing disorder), high blood pressure, obesity, and heart disease. All are symptoms of a CONSTRICTED energy!
Not using our full voice and lungs every day at least for a little bit can cost us dearly, when it comes to our health, vitality, and happiness:
- We may feel down, not knowing why.
- We may get sick too often, or have low energy.
- We may feel insecure and lack confidence.
- Even our relationships may repeat the same unhealthy patterns over and over again.
Research shows, our voice reflects our emotions. Scientists can tell the mood of a person from their voice.
Have you ever heard an enlightened person talk?
Their voice varies a lot depending on what they’re talking about or whom they’re talking to. Their tones go up and down, expressing their full emotions. They talk with their full body, with their entire Being.
After all, what is our voice?
When you ask people where their voice is, many point to their voice box. But that’s merely our loudspeaker.
Our voice is everywhere in our entire body and being.
Just like when you show someone a cello or a guitar and ask them to point to the instrument—very few would point just to the strings in the voice box. After all, take out the strings and that’s all you got. It needs the whole instrument and resonance to make beautiful sounds.
Now here comes the good part:
If our voice expresses our emotions, what if we turned that around?— Actors and singers have done this for centuries.
What if we can give our voice, our instrument, cues and conditions it recognizes as holistic and healing? What if our voice is actually a powerful tool to heal ourselves?
This is what Sing Yourself Well is all about. In the book I share why we don’t sing, why we absolutely must, and how to do it, so you feel great in just 7 seconds.
My Story: I’d like to share with you quickly my story. I describe my experience in the book in much more detail, but since time is short, here’s the short version.
When I was 5 years old, I drowned. While friends were busy fishing my lifeless body out of the water, I actually had the most amazing experience, one that set the spiritual foundation for the rest of my life:
I found who I really was. As soon as my body went dormant, I was so awake, so blissful, and totally at home. I felt like I had always lived there and never wanted to leave.
So I was thrilled when at 20 years old I found Transcendental Meditation (TM). In that first meditation, there it was again, that feeling of being completely at home. I remember tears streaming down my cheeks. I was home again.
For the next decade I devoted my life to meditating, becoming a siddha, a TM teacher, teaching TM, and being around Maharishi for 2 and a half years.
But Nature wasn’t done teaching me yet. — Is it ever?
When I was 32, I stood in Deepak Chopra’s office, hearing him tell me: “You have thyroid cancer. That’s an imbalance of the 5th chakra, the chakra of self expression. You’re not expressing yourself! If you want to heal, you have to learn to sing and speak up.”
I did. I learned to sing from listening to and watching hundreds of classical singers, studying how they used their body.
Soon I was performing in operas and classical concerts with piano and with orchestra.
Ever since then I’ve taught hundreds of clients how to use the power of their voice. Whatever their problems were, they all benefited from practicing the simple tools I describe in the book. Best of all, once you learn them, it takes you literally only 7 seconds to snap you out of pretty much any funk.
It’s vital for all of us to use our full voice and express ourselves, even if just for a few seconds and, if you’re an introvert like me, in the privacy of our own home.
We need to cultivate our whole voice and instrument. We were never taught this in our lives and that’s okay. But now we know. Now we can change our lives.
In about 2 weeks you can come back here and watch a free video training where I’ll show you the first steps of building your instrument.
With the space in your body enlivened, your instrument built, now if you pluck the strings, you literally send the frequencies of your own voice everywhere.
Your voice becomes a most powerful Healing tool.
How can you use Sing Yourself Well in 7 Seconds?
- You’ve heard it said: prevention is better than cure. I don’t want you or anyone else to go through what I went through.
- So learn it, and then take those 7 seconds every day, morning, noon, and evening or any time you think of it.
- Another way to use it is any time you need an extra boost of energy and don’t have time to take a nap, and don’t want to resort to energy drinks or yet another cup of coffee.
- Or when you’re feeling in a funk and you need to stop yourself from emotionally down spiraling asap.
My wish for you is to live fully, breathe in the joy that is life, and most of all… Sing Yourself Well!
